We just got a Genie yesterday (oh man is the interface sooo much faster!) and since it seems to play nice with our network (our old HD-DVR didn't), I thought I'd try to see if I can watch TV on my Mac.
I randomly pulled up VLC, and sure enough, there's a uPNP/DLNA server labelled DIRECTV2PC. I can see all my recorded shows but, BZZZT! Can't play any of them.
It seems like the proper way to do this is with the GenieGo, but seems odd that I need to buy yet another box when I can already see the streams? DirecTV could just provide a (sadly closed sourced) app to watch the videos? Download duke nukem for mac.
